Active Office Celebrate Sumitomo Success
Aberdeen based Design and fit-out specialists, Active Office Interiors are celebrating the successful completion of the first Scottish office for multi-national industry heavyweights, Sumitomo Corporation in Aberdeen city centre.
Best known as the worlds leading steel manufacturer, Sumitomo Corp, needed to establish a branch office for their tubular products division in order to be close to clients and suppliers. Settling on space within an office block on Union Street, the company began a competitive tender process for the design and fit out to turn the dark and tired space into a welcoming and professional office.
Manager, Sean Kemp of Sumitomo Corp said "Thanks to the efforts of the team at Active Office Interiors, this 264m2 space has been completely transformed. Within just one week of our initial meeting, we were given a full and comprehensive presentation of a complete refurbishment of the office space, taking into account our very vague requirements and adding their own interpretation of a Japanese style"
During the tender process, Sumitomo were quoted long lead times by applicants, and were delighted when Active presented their schedule of works, "We had been quoted a lead time of 14 weeks by another space planning company and, once the design had been finalised, Active produced an ambitious 6 week schedule from start to finish, and they delivered" said Sean "Keeping us up to date with progress and any problems on a regular basis, the good relationship didn't end at the hand-over stage and the team continue to give their full attention to the very minor Snags that are inevitable following a complete re-fit".
Alex Nicholson of Active Office Interiors replied "We are very proud of the success of this project. There were a number of challenges that we had to factor in, including containment of power and data provision that originally had to be accessed via the tenant located on the 2nd floor and these were serviced by protruding tower floor modules which were located throughout the open plan office area. Through sensitive design we also incorporated the two structural building support pillars either side of full height storage wall which provided Sumitomo with a large amount of central storage area and cloak cupboard facilities. We are extremely pleased and honoured to have worked with Sumitomo Corporation and we are glad that we could help to welcome them to the city by providing them with the base they desired".
